Fans felt relieved when Severance got renewed since the first season left many unanswered questions. Season 2 expanded the storyline even more, making Lumon seem even weirder.
Dan Erickson, the show’s creator, shared that Season 2 would “answer some of the pressing questions” about Lumon Industries. The biggest mysteries involve the Eagan family and Lumon’s severed floor. While fans have wild theories, they’re still in the dark. Erickson understands viewers’ curiosity has limits.
I was really adamant that I wanted to not string people along to a point where they started to lose interest, We have answers that lead to other questions and we’re stacking blocks on top of each other, of questions and answers, until ultimately we get to the big answers.
he told SciFiNow
One of the big central mysteries of the show is, what is Lumon doing? What is the end game for this company? Are they a company or a cult or something in between? So that’s something that will be revealed over the course of the whole show.
Erickson explained
Executive producer Ben Stiller shared that they’re already working on the storyline for Season 3. While it’s not officially confirmed, it’s reassuring that the creators are invested in the show’s plot. However, there’s still some concern that the series could be canceled before wrapping up the story. Fans had to wait over two years for Season 2, but Erickson remains hopeful about Season 3. Erickson assured fans that he knows how the show will end.
I have an end point, I have elements that I want to hit along the way, but it’s more of connecting the dots thing than it is a strict road map.
he confirmed

While the main storyline is planned, there’s room for creative surprises. Season 1’s Music/Dance Experience wasn’t in the original script—the cast improvised it on the spot.

You have to let the show be alive, and you have to let the show surprise you, We have to see where that goes,
Erickson explained. He mentioned that sometimes unexpected performances or details steer the story in a new direction
Fans can only hope Severance won’t fall into the trap of leaving too many mysteries unsolved. Erickson promised they would at least explain the baby goats.
I always knew that that was going to be an intriguing question and that people were going to want to know the answer, but that’s what 90% of people ask me about,
he said
While watching the scene being filmed, he realized it was too entertaining to ignore. “…Once we were shooting it, I was sitting there looking at the monitor, and I was like, ‘We have to follow this up.’ This has to be something that we spend some time with because it’s just too much fun not to.”
