The movie SE7EN is making a comeback! David Fincher’s 1995 thriller, starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, will be available to buy in 4K Ultra HD and on Blu-ray starting January 7, 2025. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, a remastered version will also play in theaters, including IMAX, in the U.S. and Canada starting January 3, with showings in other countries on select dates.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Motion Picture Imaging team restored the film using the original negative, with David Fincher supervising the process.
If you haven’t seen SE7EN yet, it’s about a young detective (Brad Pitt) who joins a police station in a rainy city and teams up with a veteran detective (Morgan Freeman) nearing retirement. They hunt a clever killer whose crimes are inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins.
The cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow as Pitt’s wife, R. Lee Ermey as the police captain, and appearances by Richard Roundtree, John C. McGinley, and Kevin Spacey.
When SE7EN first came out, it was a huge hit, partly because of its shocking ending. It inspired many copycat movies, with similar dark settings and creepy vibes. The opening credits, designed by Kyle Cooper and set to Nine Inch Nails’ song “Closer (Precursor),” were unforgettable.

Fun fact: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails later created music for five of David Fincher’s films, starting with The Social Network in 2010.
The new home video release comes with all the extra features from before. It includes four commentary tracks (about the story, actors, visuals, and sound), deleted scenes, alternate endings, behind-the-scenes videos on making the opening credits, and original marketing materials.
