It’s official—Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are engaged!
The exciting announcement came on December 11, when the pop star shared photos of herself sporting a dazzling diamond ring on Instagram, captioning the post, “Forever begins now. ” Blanco quickly put any lingering doubts to rest, commenting, “Hey, wait… that’s my wife.”
The couple’s love story began in the summer of 2023, nearly two decades after their first meeting. Gomez, 32, and Blanco, 36, were introduced over 16 years ago and later collaborated on tracks like “I Can’t Get Enough” in 2019.

Reflecting on their first meeting, Blanco, whose full name is Benjamin Joseph Levin, shared in an April interview with SiriusXM Hits 1, “We both met each other like almost 16, 17 years ago. Obviously, we made a bunch of songs together. But before we had made any music together, I was one of her big meetings—like right around when she was just leaving Disney to make her own music.”
Blanco went on to call Gomez “the best,” adding, “We wound up making songs after. She inspires me.”
Their romance, however, didn’t bloom until years later. Ironically, it was during the creation of Gomez’s hit “Single Soon,” released in August 2023, that sparks began to fly. By December 2023, Gomez had shared with fans online that Blanco “is my absolute everything in my heart.”
In a May interview with Howard Stern, Blanco recounted their first date, revealing it took him by surprise. “When we went out on our first date, I didn’t even know it was a date,” he admitted. “She was like, ‘Hey, you want to hang out?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’”
Gomez’s candid nature stood out to him. “She’s such a forward person and she’s like the coolest, the nicest, the sweetest, everything. I remember sitting there and she’s like, ‘Well, I would’ve worn something different for this date.’ And I was like, ‘What? We’re on a date?’”
Since then, the two have been inseparable, with Blanco describing Gomez as “truly my best friend. We laugh all f—– day. She inspires me.”
Blanco, who already has a strong connection with children as a godfather and uncle, has been vocal about his desire to start a family. “I want to have kids,” he shared on The Howard Stern Show. “That’s the next goal, to check the box.”
Gomez, too, had been contemplating motherhood before meeting Blanco. Reflecting on her single years, she told Time in May, “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”
But as Gomez put it, “It just happens when you least expect it.” And with Blanco, it seems the timing was perfect.
