The new version of Scrubs won’t pretend that the events of its med school-focused Season 9 were just a dream. Unlike shows like Roseanne and Will & Grace, which cleverly erased parts of their finales in their revivals, this reboot will stick to the storyline introduced in Season 9, which moved the setting and focused on new characters, including Eliza Coupe, who was introduced in Season 8.
I thought some of those actors and actresses were really starting to find their footing. Kerry Bishé, [Michael] Mosley, Dave Franco… they’re all still working for a reason. They’re all very good. I’m not against seeing those people [again], and I think it would be fun to have one of them zip by, but that spinoff, if you remember, was supposed to be a med school, and those people that were going through it would then go off into the world and land as physicians in places here, there, everywhere. What I think we will really be focusing on is a place where some of our core regulars” — AKA the OGs — “still work as physicians. And who are the new interns or residents at that hospital?
Scrubs mastermind Bill Lawrence tells TVLine.
Lawrence, who is busy promoting Season 2 of Shrinking on Apple TV+, says the new Scrubs show won’t suddenly bring the characters back to their old hospital, Sacred Heart.

In Season 9, J.D. mentioned that the hospital had been torn down, and in real life, the building where they filmed the show was also demolished.
I drove by there two days ago, and it’s beautiful condos now. I actually know somebody that lives there now. Cool buildings!
Lawrence says the reason for bringing Scrubs back is to check if J.D.’s life turned out the way he hoped it would.
I wonder if J.D.’s dreams. All really did come true. That, to us, is interesting.
