Kevin Williamson, the writer of the first movie, is taking charge as the director for this one.
Ghostface is after someone new. Isabel May, famous for her roles in the Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, has landed the role of Neve Campbell’s daughter in Scream 7. She’s also discussing a chance to act alongside the iconic Scream Queen.
The seventh movie in the horror series, made by Spyglass Entertainment, is starting fresh after losing its young stars Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. Neve Campbell, who skipped the last movie over a pay issue, is returning. This time, the story will focus on her character, Sidney Prescott, and Sidney’s daughter.
Kevin Williamson, who created the Scream series and wrote the scripts for the first movie, Scream 2, and Scream 4, is now directing. The script for Scream 7 was written by Guy Busick, the writer of 2022’s Scream and Scream VI.
Paramount Pictures plans to release Scream 7 in theaters on February 27, 2026. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment are producing the movie.
The new movie needed a fresh start, which led to Neve Campbell being cast. Melissa Barrera was removed from the series last year after her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega had quietly left the project a few months earlier. Following these changes, the original director, Christopher Landon, also announced that he was stepping away.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, also called Radio Silence, brought new life to the Scream series with the 2022 movie. They also directed last year’s Scream VI, which earned $166.3 million worldwide.
The original Scream from 1996 was directed by Wes Craven and based on a script Kevin Williamson wrote as a spec project. Sidney Prescott has been the main focus of the series since the first film, which also featured Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley.
