Sarah Beeny opened up about her “heartbreaking” cancer battle while appearing on the Celebrity Bake Off Stand Up to Cancer special on Sunday.
The Property Ladder star, 53, joined the charity show alongside Roman Kemp, Maxine Peake, and Amelia Dimoldenberg. Sharing why she chose to take part, the TV presenter said:
I am here to support Stand Up To Cancer. Having been impacted with cancer myself, I learnt a lot when I was diagnosed with it. Cancer treatment has come on so far. Compared to where it was, it’s amazing. Compared to where it is going, it will be even more amazing.
As the celebrity contestants baked to impress the judges, viewers were touched by Sarah’s appearance and took to X to express their support for the beloved host and property expert.

One viewer penned: “I have a very close friend going through a cancer journey right now. Seeing Sarah Beeny looking so beautiful and healthy gives me hope. #SU2C #GBBO.”
Another shared: “I’m going to nominate you if I stay” nah Sarah deserved that 100% BBUK”
Earlier this month, Sarah Beeny shared a health update and announced a new charity role after overcoming breast cancer.
Diagnosed in August 2022, she underwent intensive chemotherapy and a double mastectomy before being declared cancer-free in 2023. Cancer has deeply affected her family—her mother fought breast cancer that later spread to her brain, leading to her passing when Sarah was just 10. Her stepmother also lost her life to a brain tumor.

Sarah has now taken on the role of patron for Brain Tumour Research, pushing for increased funding for the disease. During an appearance on BBC Breakfast last month, she emphasized the urgent need for more research, stating:
I’m very lucky, I had a very fortunate diagnosis. I’m fortunate that people like my mother, who died when I was 10, died and they did the research. She won’t see her grandchildren, but she died so I can see mine. I would like to see the amount of resources and efforts put towards finding a cure for brain tumour as has been done for breast cancer.

I’m not saying it’s always a good story, but it’s a lot better than it was 30 years ago.
Sarah’s cancer journey was featured in Sarah Beeny vs. Cancer, released in June 2024. The documentary covered her treatment, double mastectomy, and the gene testing she underwent to evaluate her family’s risk.
In an interview, Sarah shared that she carries a gene mutation that greatly raises her risk of developing cancer. This discovery confirmed her choice to undergo a double mastectomy instead of a single one, as the mutation gave her a 50% chance of the disease returning in the unaffected breast.
The genetic results also mean her four sons—Billy, Charlie, Rafferty, and Laurie—each have a 50% chance of inheriting the mutation.
