Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering in a Mumbai hospital after being stabbed during an attempted burglary at his Bandra residence early Thursday morning. According to Mumbai police, the 54-year-old actor is out of danger, with doctors confirming that he is “on the path to complete recovery” after sustaining multiple stab wounds to his spine, neck, and hand.
He sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair the leaking spinal fluid.

The incident occurred just after midnight when Khan confronted an intruder attempting to break into his apartment via a fire escape. A female employee in the residence was also attacked and is receiving treatment for her injuries, police said.

Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer of Lilavati Hospital, confirmed Khan sustained six stab wounds, two of which were deep. A foreign object close to his spine was identified and removed during surgery.
One of the injuries was quite severe and required 10 stitches, but his spine and vital organs were not affected.

The attack has prompted calls for increased security in the Bandra area, home to many Bollywood celebrities. Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt expressed concern on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before.”
Political figures, including Clyde Crasto of the Nationalist Congress Party, echoed similar sentiments.
