After the success of “Deadpool and Wolverine” at the box office, earning $1.3 billion, Ryan Reynolds shared his thoughts about the future of Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He believes that the character should still be an outsider even if Deadpool interacts with teams like the Avengers or X-Men
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds explained that Deadpool is most interesting when he operates on the edges of Marvel’s big superhero groups, not as a full member.
I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.
Reynolds said.
This idea comes as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige talks about what’s next for Deadpool in future movies.
The plans with Deadpool and Wolverine will always be the same: we’re always wondering where we can fit them in, and how quickly.
Feige told Omelete at Disney’s D23 Brazil event in November.
Ryan Reynolds’ view on Deadpool’s role in the Marvel movies comes from knowing the character really well after working on three films.

The latest movie was a huge hit, becoming the highest-earning live-action film of 2024, with surprise appearances by stars like Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Chris Evans, and Channing Tatum.

This success is a big moment for Reynolds, especially after the letdown of his 2011 movie, Green Lantern. Taking charge of Deadpool’s story, he turned a small $68-million budget into a record-breaking superhero series for adults.
If I win, great. If I lose, I get to also feel like I was the architect of my own demise.
Reynolds told THR about his decision to become a producer
Ryan Reynolds hints that Deadpool might not have as many solo movies in the future.
I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool. He is a great supporting or ensemble player. And I would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way. Centering Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again. A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool which is fulfilling and powerful.
he revealed
This plan fits with Marvel’s bigger idea of bringing mutants into the Marvel movies.
Kevin Feige said the X-Men will play a big role in the future, especially after the 2027 movie “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a matter of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, heading into Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story is going to be up until then and after that. The X-Men are an important part of that future.
Feige explained to Omelete
When asked if Deadpool might show up in future Avengers movies, Ryan Reynolds kept things secret.
I’m not even being cagey. We’ll see what happens there.
