Princess Michael of Kent is recovering from multiple wrist injuries after a frightening fall at her Kensington Palace home.
The 78-year-old royal, who is married to Prince Michael of Kent, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth, was seen attending King Charles’ pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on December 19 with both wrists splinted.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the princess explained that the accident occurred while she was carrying a pile of overcoats.
I slipped, and the coats broke my fall, but I broke multiple small bones in my wrists when I put my hands out to catch myself.
she said
The injuries have significantly impacted her daily life. While she can manage to type on her phone using a single finger, working on a laptop remains out of reach.
So many things that you rely on being able to do, like cleaning your teeth, are impossible.
She admitted to Majesty magazine
The fall comes as Princess Michael continues to recover from heart surgery she underwent a year ago.
I still have to rest every afternoon. If you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started.
she shared, noting that doctors warned her to avoid further strain
In the same interview, the princess also spoke about the tragic loss of her son-in-law, Thomas Kingston, earlier this year. Kingston, who was married to her daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor, passed away in February at the age of 45 from an apparent suicide.
Reflecting on the loss, Princess Michael described Kingston as “a lovely man, so kind and so thoughtful.” She added, “They were very happy together.”
Lady Gabriella recently testified at an inquest into Kingston’s death, revealing that his passing may have been linked to an adverse reaction to new medication.
As Princess Michael continues her recovery, the royal family remains by her side during a particularly challenging time.
