Don’t expect Robert Englund to put on Freddy Krueger’s makeup again, as he has said he’s done playing the role physically. However, he did mention he’s still willing to voice an animated version of the iconic Springwood Slasher.
To promote the new 4K version of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund discussed his time playing Freddy Krueger in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting. Not long ago, his co-star Heather Langenkamp (who played Nancy Thompson) suggested in a separate interview that she thought Englund had one more Freddy movie in him. But Englund insists he’s done, saying he’s “too old” for the role now. However, he’s still open to voicing Freddy for an animated project.

I don’t. I really don’t, Maybe we could do some special close-up or something, but no, I can’t play him anymore. I’m just too old.
Englund said when asked if he could play Freddy one more time.
But no, I don’t have any Freddy left in me. I might be able to voice a high-quality animated version, and that would be great if someone asked me. But I know I can’t do the fight scenes more than once from one angle. I just can’t move my head around like that anymore. I’m an old dog! Cut me some slack!

In the interview, Englund also talked about a fun way he could come back to the franchise. He suggested remaking the third movie, Dream Warriors, with a new cast since it’s the “most popular” film in the series. Englund mentioned that he could have a cameo in the remake, playing a different character that he thinks would be perfect for him.

Robert Englund Would Do a Cameo as a Different Character in a Reboot

I would love to be invited if they remake Part 3, Dream Warriors because I think it’s the most popular movie in the franchise
It would be fun to play one of the doctors. The talented Priscilla Pointer, who is Amy Irving’s mom, was in that film. Maybe I could take her role as a male doctor who is very cynical. It would be a fun little wink to the audience, showing that I don’t believe in this dream demon that everyone is dreaming about. It’s common in horror remakes to give an actor from the original movie a cameo, so I think that would be a great idea!

Wes Craven wrote and directed A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film featured Englund as Freddy, along with Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss, and Nick Corri. It tells the story of a killer who comes back from the dead to target teenagers in their dreams, seeking revenge against their parents who burned him alive many years ago.
The new restoration of A Nightmare on Elm Street is now available digitally and will be released on 4K Ultra HD on October 15.
