Nosferatu is doing well in theaters, with both critics and viewers giving it positive reviews. If you’re hoping to see more of the movie, here’s some good news: the Blu-ray release will include a longer version for fans to enjoy.
Robert Eggers, the director of the new Nosferatu movie, talked about the film in an interview with Esquire UK alongside stars Bill Skarsgård and Willem Dafoe. They watched a trailer that showed a creepy shot of Skarsgård as Count Orlok. However, Eggers explained that this scene didn’t make it into the movie because it revealed the character too early.
Even though he loved the shot and used it in the trailer, it was left out of the theatrical version. Eggers confirmed that the scene will be included in an extended version of Nosferatu on the Blu-ray.
The first shot in the trailer is an interesting one because it’s not actually in the movie, I really love that shot—it’s really cool—but including it too early in the film gave away Bill’s presence and ruined some of the mystery. We wanted to keep things more suspenseful. However, if you get the Blu-ray, you’ll find it in the extended edition.
Eggers shared
Eggers casually mentioned that an extended version of Nosferatu is on the way, making this the first time it’s been confirmed. However, no details have been revealed yet about how much longer this version will be.
The theatrical release of the movie is already the longest Nosferatu film, running 2 hours and 12 minutes. In comparison, the original 1922 version was 1 hour and 12 minutes, and the 1979 Nosferatu, the Vampyre ran for 1 hour and 47 minutes.
