For a moment, the future of Resident Alien was uncertain as fans anxiously awaited news beyond Season 3. Fortunately, in June 2024—four months after the Season 3 premiere—Syfy confirmed a renewal. However, the show’s move from Syfy to USA Network left fans uneasy about what to expect. Despite the shift, major changes seem unlikely since showrunner Chris Sheridan remains on board.
Since the Season 4 renewal, updates have been scarce, making the wait even harder, especially after the cliffhanger-filled Season 3 finale. But at last, there’s some good news—Alan Tudyk has shared his thoughts on when fans can expect the new season to premiere.
Although Tudyk’s release window speculation isn’t set in stone, it’s still better than having no updates at all. Speaking at the 2025 Fan Expo Vancouver, Tudyk was open about the uncertainty surrounding Season 4’s premiere. However, he expressed a strong belief that the new season could arrive by late 2025.
I feel like you should get it before the end of 2025,
the actor, who plays the show’s titular character, said per The Direct.
Co-star Alice Wetterlund, who was also on the panel, shared a similar sentiment, adding,
Yeah, absolutely. They seem to be speeding things along for that very purpose. We don’t know when, but it feels like they want to air it this year. That is the feeling.

A platform change always brings challenges, and Resident Alien is no exception. The move was largely due to financial constraints, leading to a significantly smaller budget for Season 4. Despite these cuts, the show will need to deliver strong ratings to justify further investment. If it falls short, Season 4 could be its last.

With this uncertainty, the show’s creator will likely focus on resolving Season 3’s loose ends while keeping the door open for a potential continuation—an opportunity many canceled shows never get. There’s also a slim chance that a streaming service could step in to save it. Resident Alien has already seen a surge in its fanbase after Seasons 1 and 2 arrived on Netflix, so that remains a possibility.
Along with Tudyk and Wetterlund, Season 4 is expected to bring back supporting cast members such as Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson.
