Rotherham performer Rebecca Lucy Taylor shared the heartfelt reason she joined Channel 4’s “Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.”
Known by her stage name, Self Esteem, the singer, songwriter, and actress secured second place in the celebrity edition of the popular TV show.
Celebrity Bake Off encouraged viewers to donate to cancer research. Rebecca revealed that the disease had affected her family, which is why the cause was so meaningful to her.
“Cancer is something that will affect almost one in two of us. Research is desperately needed. Fundraising is going to save so many lives. Cancer devastates so many families. My dad (Andy) had prostate cancer. He survived and went through the treatment really well, actually. The NHS were incredible. I’m so lucky that science has evolved the way it has, that my dad could get actual cancer and then easily and quickly not have it anymore. The more chance of that being the case for people, the better.
says the Anston-born former Wales High School pupil.
Rebecca, who is used to being on TV competition shows, really enjoyed the experience, though she wasn’t about to let judge and celebrity chef Paul Hollywood push her around.
When he said her crumpets (a twist on beans on toast using Henderson’s Relish) were “quite doughy,” she quickly replied, “Do you enjoy the power you wield, Paul?” They both laughed it off, and Rebecca went on to win the second challenge by baking a Lambeth cake, which Hollywood described as “lovely.”

In the final part of the show, Rebecca and the other contestants had to create a “Pie Portrait” – a dish celebrating their favourite celebrity.
She decided to make the pie look like George Michael’s backside!
Comedian Meera Syal won the overall event and was named Star Baker – a title the South Yorkshire woman said was “definitely deserved.”
I have met really amazing people and raised money for Stand up to Cancer – it doesn’t get much better than that. For a people-pleasing Libra, I’m surprisingly competitive
Rebecca, who had regarded herself as an underdog, summed up and further She said she was proud of herself for her culinary skills, too.
