The actress shares her experience filming her scenes for the second season of the Apple show alongside Steve Zahn — and only him.
As the second season of Silo begins streaming this week on Apple TV+, Rebecca Ferguson, who stars in and produces the show, is excited to bring the full sci-fi story from the books to life. She believes it might take about four seasons to do justice to the original story.
Silo is based on Hugh Howey’s book trilogy, which imagines a future where people live in a giant underground silo because the world above is too dangerous to survive.
When asked about plans for Season 3, Rebecca Ferguson kept things mysterious.
In the Season 1 finale, Juliette Nichols, played by Rebecca Ferguson, went outside and survived. She uncovered a secret plot by those in charge to make sure anyone who steps outside dies. Once outside, she realized their silo wasn’t the only one—there were many others nearby.
Season 2 starts right where Season 1 ended. The first episode, with almost no dialogue, shows Juliette trying to reach the closest silo before running out of oxygen. It’s a physically demanding role, and Ferguson loved taking on the challenge.
This season brought a new challenge for Rebecca Ferguson, as most of her scenes are with Steve Zahn, who plays Solo, a man she meets in an empty silo. Ferguson was thrilled when Zahn agreed to join the show.
Since Rebecca Ferguson and Steve Zahn’s scenes take place in a different silo from the rest of the story, they filmed separately from the other cast members. In fact, they shot their part of the season after the rest of the cast had finished and after the strikes ended.
The crew reused the original silo sets but changed them to look abandoned, damaged, and filled with water for their scenes.
Even though Rebecca Ferguson loves Silo, she hasn’t watched Season 2 yet for a few reasons.
Seeing the raw shots with all the green and blue screens feels really confusing to me, so I decided it’s better not to. She was also sick during the show’s premiere and missed seeing the first episode on the big screen. “That was really, really sad,” she admitted. However, she has watched plenty of her scenes with Steve Zahn.
Her opinion? “It’s great.”
Silo Season 2 premiered this week on Apple TV+ with its first episode. New episodes come out every Friday.
