From August 5 to August 11, streaming originals had a quiet week, with only one show making it to Nielsen’s overall list. Netflix’s Umbrella Academy stood out, reaching nearly 1.5 billion viewing minutes during the week of its Season 4 premiere.
This isn’t surprising since the show was already getting more viewers the week before the new season. It ranked No. 8 on the streaming originals list with 287 million minutes watched.
Umbrella Academy performed well, earning second place, just behind Prison Break, which has become popular again on Netflix. However, it’s a bit less than Season 3, which had over 2 billion minutes viewed in its debut week in 2022, even though it came out right after Stranger Things 4.
It isn’t the only show to lose viewers from one season to the next, and it won’t be the last. It will probably get even higher numbers in the next few weeks once Season 4 has been available for a full week.

The rest of the list was mostly made up of popular shows like Bluey, Grey’s Anatomy, and animated series like Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. The biggest surprise was Prison Break, which jumped to first place with 1.6 billion minutes watched after arriving on Netflix, even though it’s still available on Hulu. This shows how strong the “Netflix Effect” can be.
House of the Dragon took the No. 5 spot with 935 million minutes watched in the week after the Season 2 finale. This is a small drop from the previous week when it reached over a billion minutes. The earlier numbers included live viewing of the finale, while this week reflects more people catching up later.
The prequel series also brought its original show back onto the list. Game of Thrones ranked No. 9 with 689 million minutes watched that week.
Dexter and Fire Country finished off the list. Check out more details below.
