Phoebe Dynevor, who rose to fame for her breakout role as Daphne Bridgerton in Bridgerton, has revealed why she has not returned to the series since Season 2.
After leading the show’s first season alongside Regé-Jean Page, Dynevor briefly reprised her role in Season 2 but has not appeared on screen since.
Speaking about her absence, she said, “I just want to say I have not received a call,” adding, “and when I get that call, I will be there if I can.”
@colliderdotcom “When I do get that call, I'll be there if I can." 🤩 While speaking with Perri Nemiroff on the latest instalment of Collider Ladies Night, Phoebe Dynevor shares that she didn’t choose to leave Bridgerton after Season 1 and she would be interested in reprising Daphne Bridgerton in the future 👗 #PhoebeDynevor #Bridgerton ♬ original sound – ColliderDotCom
Her character, Daphne Bridgerton, last appeared interacting with her family and her brother Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), but has not been seen in later seasons as the series shifted focus to other siblings.
Dynevor explained that the show’s long-term direction was not fully planned during its early production stages. “When the first season came out they didn’t know what they needed to put in place,” she said. “So we were like the ones that got away I think, in a certain way. But like we would—I can only speak for myself—I would always come back if I was asked.”
She also reflected on her time in the series and how it shaped her career, saying it opened new opportunities. “Suddenly I realized that I had these opportunities to play lots of different women,” she continued, “and it’s all I’d ever wanted in my career.”
Despite speculation about recasting, showrunner Jess Brownell previously addressed the possibility, saying it would be “disservice to everything Regé and Phoebe set up in season one, and all the beautiful work they put into those characters.”
Brownell added, “We would love to potentially have them back at some point, but I think, logistically, we want to make sure we bring them back when we have something really meaty for them.”
As for a potential return timeline, Dynevor and Page could theoretically appear as early as Season 5, which is currently in production and will follow Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Sterling (Masali Baduza).
