Work on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 is officially underway, though the series has yet to receive a confirmed renewal. Season 1, based on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson novels, was a huge hit. It even became the most-watched show on Disney+ last year, surpassing several Marvel and Star Wars projects to take the top spot.
Just a few weeks ago, filming for Season 2 wrapped up, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release later this year.
On February 25, Percy Jackson and the Olympians executive producer and author Rick Riordan shared on Bluesky that script planning for Season 3 has officially begun.
He revealed that the team has “been cleared to start a room and begin planning scripts,” with writers meeting that same day to kick off discussions—despite the series not yet being officially renewed for a third season.
Riordan emphasized this point, stating, “This does NOT mean the third season is green-lighted yet.” However, he expressed optimism about Season 3 moving forward, explaining that if it happens, development must “start now.” This is why work has begun even before an official renewal.
Excited to meet with the ‘PJO’ writers’ room today to discuss potential plans for season three. This does NOT mean the third season is green-lighted yet, but we have been cleared to start a room and begin planning scripts, because assuming the show DOES go forward, we have to start now. Optimistic.
Fans might wonder why work on Season 3 is starting so early, especially since Season 2 is either about to enter or is still in the early stages of post-production—and hasn’t even been officially confirmed yet. However, this isn’t new for Percy Jackson. Preliminary writing for Season 2 also began before its renewal. The key difference this time is that Riordan is stressing the urgency to “start now.”
The likely reason? The tight timeline between the second and third Percy Jackson books. In-universe, the first two novels are set a year apart, making changes in the actors’ appearances over two years between filming Seasons 1 and 2 easier to explain.

But books two and three take place just a few months apart, meaning Season 3 would benefit from filming as close to Season 2 as possible.

Interestingly, The Titan’s Curse, the third Percy Jackson novel, is the only book in the original series set during winter rather than summer. Since much of the first two seasons were filmed on location, it’s likely Season 3 would follow the same approach—meaning it would need to be filmed in winter.
If production doesn’t start this winter (late 2025 to early 2026), the team would have to wait until late 2026 or early 2027—about two years after wrapping Season 2. To maintain continuity in the actors’ appearances, the team is likely aiming to begin filming by the end of this year.
Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is now streaming on Disney+, with Season 2 expected to premiere by late 2025.
