Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is bringing back more familiar faces! One actor from season 1 has confirmed their return, adding to the growing cast. This Disney+ series is the second try at turning Rick Riordan’s popular books into live action.
Instead of movies, this time it’s a TV show, with each season focusing on one book from Percy’s adventures. Season 2 will follow the story of The Sea of Monsters and has announced some exciting cast members, like Daniel Diemer, who will play Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant about his work on Mufasa: The Lion King, where he wrote and composed new songs, Lin-Manuel Miranda shared some exciting news. He confirmed that he’s returning for season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Miranda, who plays Hermes, explained that his character is part of the story in the second book. He also mentioned that he has already finished filming his scenes for the season.
I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say this—yes, I’m in season 2 because my character is in that book. I appear when Percy needs me, and I’ve already finished filming my scenes for the new season.

Fans of Rick Riordan’s books will be happy to hear that Lin-Manuel Miranda is returning for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. In the 2006 book The Sea of Monsters, Hermes doesn’t appear often but plays an important role. He gives Percy magical items to help him find the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood. Hermes also explains why he’s helping now, unlike in The Lightning Thief. He hopes to free his son Luke from Kronos’ control.
Miranda’s return as Hermes shows how the series sticks closely to Riordan’s original story compared to the movies. In The Sea of Monsters, Percy meets Hermes on the beach at Camp Half-Blood—a scene left out of the 2013 movie. Instead, in the film, Hermes, played by Nathan Fillion, ran a mail delivery service, which was a playful nod to his role as the god of trade, travelers, and messengers.
Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians introduced The Beach and gave Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hermes more emotional depth. In season 2, the show can dive deeper into how Hermes feels about his son Luke’s bad choices. Miranda has already finished filming his scenes, so it seems like Hermes’ role might not be much bigger than in the books. However, with Rick Riordan and showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz making thoughtful changes for the TV series, it’s possible Hermes could get a bit more screen time or development.
So far, the only Greek god confirmed for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is Courtney B. Vance as Zeus, taking over from the late Lance Reddick. Knowing that Lin-Manuel Miranda will return as Hermes is great news. In season 1, Hermes and Adam Copeland’s Ares were my favorite adult characters. Since Hermes was recast between the first two movies, and Miranda is always busy, it’s a relief that he found time to return for the new season.
