The Max/HBO series “The Penguin” has become one of the most popular streaming hits this year, staying at the top of the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for eight weeks.
The show is set in Gotham City, home of Batman, though Batman himself doesn’t appear. Instead, the focus is on a villain named Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin. He’s a ruthless mobster who is determined to take over the city’s drug trade, using any means necessary.
Colin Farrell, who plays Cobblepot, is transformed into the character with heavy prosthetics and makeup, making him almost unrecognizable. The series’ final episode, “A Great Or Little Thing,” aired on November 10, ending its streak of dominance on the charts.

Fans are now wondering if “The Penguin” will continue its success, much like “House of the Dragon,” another hit from Max/HBO that remained popular even after new episodes stopped airing.
“The Penguin” is followed on the chart by another crime boss show, “Tulsa King.” This Paramount+ series, created by Taylor Sheridan, who also made “Yellowstone,” has been in the top 10 every week of its season. Its second season started in September and has been climbing the ranks.
The season finale is on Nov. 17, and it might be the only show that can take the top spot from “The Penguin” next week.

Next, five shows from Netflix fill the chart. The highest is “Outer Banks,” which is back on the list after missing two weeks. Its fourth season returned on Nov. 7 with new episodes, bringing it to No. 3. “The Diplomat” moves up one place to No. 4, becoming more popular. Even its first season is back on the chart at No. 10 this week.
In fifth place is a documentary called “Martha,” which also moved up one spot from last week. “The Lincoln Lawyer” has been on the list for four weeks straight but dropped to its lowest position yet, landing at No. 7.
At No. 6 is the first Christmas movie of 2024, “Meet Me Next Christmas.” This romantic comedy was added to Netflix on Nov. 6, kicking off the holiday season right after Halloween.
The movie stars Christina Milian and is aimed at millennials, featuring early 2000s fan-favourite actors. But Halloween isn’t completely gone yet—Netflix’s time-travel slasher movie “Time Cut” is still hanging on, landing at No. 9.
At No. 8 is “Despicable Me 4,” the latest adventure of Gru and his minions. It was on the chart back in August when renting or buying online became available. It’s back again after being added to Peacock’s streaming library on Halloween.
On regular TV, there’s a bit of a competition between “The Voice” and “Tracker.” NBC’s singing show, “The Voice,” is usually the most popular in the fall and is back at No. 1 this week. “Tracker,” a drama that airs after CBS’s Sunday football games, dropped to No. 2 after being No. 1 for two weeks.
The big story on regular TV is the return of “Yellowstone.” This hit western show started airing the second half of its fifth season on the Paramount Network on Nov. 10, almost two years after the first half finished. A special airing on CBS helped it climb the charts. It will hit streaming in December on Peacock, not Paramount+, and fans wonder if it will stay popular.
Around “Yellowstone” on the chart are “Chicago Med” at No. 3 and “Chicago Fire” at No. 5. “Saturday Night Live” is No. 6, likely because people wanted to see how the show talked about the presidential election results.
ABC’s drama “9-1-1” is at No. 7, and Fox’s detective show “Murder in a Small Town” appears on the chart for the first time, coming in at No. 9. Finally, two episodes of “Wheel of Fortune” round out the Top 10.
