Pedro Pascal is the newest big name to join the growing list of people praising Andor. The actor recently said the Star Wars series is “the best political thriller series maybe ever?” and even used hashtags to make his point: #F****Fascism, #FightThePower, and #FreedIsAPureIdea.

Andor, created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+, is one of the most unique Star Wars shows ever made. It tells the story of Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, in the years before Rogue One. The series shows how he goes from being a thief to a rebel spy, while also showing the early struggles of the Rebel Alliance as it starts to form.
The show stood out from the start because of its different style. Instead of focusing on Jedi or well-known names like Skywalker or Palpatine, Andor tells the story of ordinary people fighting against the Empire. NPR’s Mandalit del Barco said the series is “being hailed as the most complex, mature story in Star Wars lore.” Jack Seale of The Guardian gave it four stars and called it “the best Star Wars show since The Mandalorian.”
Variety’s Caroline Framke praised it for telling “a story of people who have nothing to do with Solos, Skywalkers or Palpatines, but whose lives matter nonetheless.” Nicholas Quah from Vulture called it “a breath of fresh air” and praised the writing, politics, and design of the series.
The numbers also support the praise. Rotten Tomatoes gives Andor a 96% approval rating, with critics calling it a powerful and serious entry in the Star Wars world. Metacritic rates the show 92 out of 100, which means “universal acclaim.” Even with all this recognition, Emmy nominations earlier this year sparked debate. Pedro Pascal was nominated for his role as Joel in The Last of Us Season 2, even though he didn’t appear on screen much.

At the same time, Diego Luna didn’t get a nomination for Andor. Many fans called it a snub, especially since his performance was one of the show’s best parts.
Pedro Pascal is set to return to his own Star Wars role next year when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters. Despite the controversy, Pascal’s comments show how highly respected Andor has become. With its political themes, bold storytelling, and strong performances, the series has earned a reputation not just as one of the best Star Wars shows, but also as one of the best TV dramas in recent years.
