Pedro Pascal revealed that a deleted scene from The Last of Us Season 1 initially convinced him to join the show. However, showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed that the scene will be included in Season 2.
There was a scene, early in Season 1, where Joel met with a therapist in the QZ in Boston, I found it a beautiful way into the character and the walls that are guarding his traumas and losses.
Pascal told Variety.
The scene in question, however, didn’t make it into the show’s first season.
And he was like, ‘That’s half the reason I’m here!’ Therapy is a fantastic mirror to say not just ‘What are you really thinking?’ but what people are refusing to talk about.
Mazin said, clarifying that the scene would indeed appear in season 2.

The addition of this scene makes me wonder how The Last of Us Season 2 will handle its timeline and how much of Part 2 will be spread out. In the game, Joel’s Big Event (no spoilers here) happens almost right away. But based on the trailer and what we know so far, it seems like we’ll be spending more time with adult Ellie and an older Joel—which I’m definitely excited for.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are returning in The Last of Us Season 2 as Joel and Ellie. Gabriel Luna is also back as Joel’s brother, Tommy. The new season will introduce fresh faces, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
The Last of Us season 2 is set to hit Max on Sunday, April 13.
