Paul Dano is set to lead A24’s upcoming drama The Chaperones, joining Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson, who recently appeared together in Lionsgate’s dystopian thriller The Long Walk.
The film is directed by India Donaldson, marking her second feature after 2024’s critically acclaimed Good One. Set in the days following Christmas, The Chaperones follows three slacker friends hired to transport a troubled teen across the country. The screenplay is written by Sebastian Black, making his feature debut.
Production houses Robert Pattinson’s Icki Eneo Arlo and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are producing the film, reuniting Dano with Plan B after previous collaborations on 12 Years a Slave and Okja. Dano also starred opposite Pattinson in The Batman. Adam Wyatt Tate (How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Atropia) will serve as executive producer.
An Emmy nominee for Escape at Dannemora and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Dano’s film credits include Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, The Fabelmans, and Dumb Money. Earlier this year, he appeared in The Wizard of the Kremlin, premiering at the Venice Film Festival, portraying a fictional TV producer who becomes a political strategist for a young Vladimir Putin.
Dano is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
A24’s upcoming slate also features the afterlife romantic comedy Eternity, Timothée Chalamet and Josh Safdie’s table-tennis drama Marty Supreme, and the queer rom-com Pillion starring Alexander Skarsgård.
