Gaga danced and played the piano while performing Zizi Jeanmaire’s song by the Seine River.
Lady Gaga was the first big surprise at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
The 38-year-old Grammy and Oscar winner wowed everyone with a dazzling performance of Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc en Plumes” by the Seine River on July 26. This was the first time the opening ceremony happened outside a stadium.
Gaga performed on a big staircase inspired by the Grand Palais, with 10 dancers and 17 musicians. Some of them hid her behind large feathers until she started singing. After dancing energetically, Gaga, dressed in Dior, moved to a piano and played while singing beautifully.
Gaga’s performance was part of the “Enchanté” section of the event, which celebrated French history and culture.
The “Bad Romance” singer joined the event just weeks after finishing her Jazz & Piano residency in Las Vegas. Before arriving in Paris on Monday, July 22, Gaga posted on Instagram on July 18, saying she had been spending time in the studio.
After the news, a source told PEOPLE that Gaga has “never been happier” with the music she’s been making. The source also said, “She’s feeling the most creative she’s ever been.”
Besides music, Gaga prepares to play Harley Quinn, also known as Lee, in the upcoming movie Joker Folie à Deux with Joaquin Phoenix. The latest trailer for this sequel to the 2019 Joker movie came out on July 23.
In a new interview with Empire, the “Rain on Me” singer discussed her role in the film. She explained that she had to forget some of her trained singing skills to play the character. “For me, there are a lot of mistakes when Lee sings,” she said.
“I’m a trained singer, so my breathing differed when I sang as Lee. On stage, I control my breathing to stay on pitch and keep the right rhythm and time. But Lee wouldn’t know how to do that, I had to remove the technical skills and completely become who she is.”
