Apple TV released the trailer for the second season of “Pachinko,” based on Min Jin Lee’s famous book. The trailer features Rosé from the K-pop group Blackpink singing a cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” Her cover will also play in the final episode of the new season.
“Pachinko” tells Sunja’s story, starting when she is a young woman helping her mom run a boarding house in Korea during Japanese rule. Young Sunja, played by Minha Kim, lives quietly in a small village until she meets Koh Hansu, a fish broker played by Lee Minho. Although he’s Korean, he works for the Japanese and holds power in her village.

Even though Sunja marries someone else, her relationship with Koh Hansu changes her life and the lives of her future family. She follows her minister husband to Osaka, Japan, where they face discrimination against Koreans living there during the occupation. Her family settles in Japan, and future generations must deal with this discrimination by fighting against it or finding a way to live with it.
The first season of “Pachinko” shows Sunja’s story alongside that of her successful grandson, Solomon, a financial expert played by Jin Ha. In season two, the story continues in 1945 in Osaka. Sunja does everything she can to help her family survive the hardships of World War II. Meanwhile, in 1989, Tokyo, Solomon tries to gain financial power in a society that still judges him because of his Korean heritage.
The first season of “Pachinko” won 11 international awards, including a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Gotham Independent Film Award.

The award-winning series “Pachinko,” created by Soo Hugh, is told in Korean, Japanese, and English. Media Res produced the show for Apple TV+, with Michael Ellenberg, Lindsey Springer, and Theresa Kang as executive producers. The second season also features Academy Award winner Yuh-Jung Youn as the older Sunja and Anna Sawai, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han, and Sungkyu Kim.
