Deadline recently talked to Outer Banks co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke while they were promoting season 4, part 2, which came out on Netflix on November 7. While they shared their excitement for the show’s final season, they also hinted that “other stories in this universe” might come in the future.

Even though Outer Banks is popular, the show is ending for reasons not connected to Netflix’s habit of canceling shows after a few seasons because of rising costs. The creators always planned for the story to last five seasons, but the growing age gap between the actors and their teenage characters might also be a factor. Still, because the show remains so popular, spinoffs focusing on different parts of its universe could be a great way to continue the story.
Some of the Outer Banks cast members might return for a spinoff, but many are likely to want to take on new projects outside the show. This seems more likely since several of them have already used their roles to start working in movies. For example, Chase Stokes recently starred with Joey King in the YA movie Uglies, and Drew Starkey, who plays Daniel Craig’s love interest in the movie Queer, is getting a lot of attention for his role, with Oscar buzz already building.
Although we won’t know the exact characters or storyline for a while, it looks like an Outer Banks spinoff will likely happen.
