AMC Networks has decided not to make a second season of the sci-fi show “Orphan Black: Echoes,” which stars Krysten Ritter. This news comes just weeks after the first season finished its 10 episodes on AMC, AMC+, and BBC America.
“Orphan Black: Echoes” faced high expectations because of its connection to the original “Orphan Black” series. However, it didn’t attract as many fans and received mixed reviews from critics, with a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show ended on August 25.
Set in 2052, 37 years after the original series, “Orphan Black: Echoes” explores how science can change human life. It follows Kira (Keeley Hawes) and her wife (Rya Kihlstedt) as they help a woman named Lucy (Krysten Ritter) who has lost her memory.
Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, and James Hiroyuki Liao also appear in “Orphan Black: Echoes.” Anna Fishko created the show and was the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. John Fawcett, who co-created the original series, directed and executive produced.
David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg from Boat Rocker, who worked on the original show, also executive produced along with Boat Rocker’s Nick Nantell and Kerry Appleyard, and Katie O’Connell Marsh.
The original “Orphan Black” helped make BBC America famous for its original shows and won big at the Emmys. Star Tatiana Maslany got three nominations for playing many different roles and won the award in 2016. The show, which had five seasons, became very popular and created a devoted fan group called the “Clone Club.”
