The R-rated comedy ‘One of Them Days‘, starring Keke Palmer and SZA, made a big splash at the North American box office during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
The movie earned $11.6 million over the three-day weekend and is expected to hit $14 million by the end of the four-day holiday, which covers its $14 million production cost.
Directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton, One of Them Days follows Palmer and SZA as friends and roommates trying to find money for rent so they can avoid being kicked out of their home. The movie has gotten great reviews, with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s also the first comedy led by Black women in theaters since the 2017 hit Girls Trip.

Even though the film did well, the overall box office results for the holiday weekend were low. Total earnings for the three-day period are expected to be under $80 million, making it one of the weakest Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekends since 1997.
One of Them Days barely beat Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which made $11.5 million over the weekend.
However, Mufasa is expected to earn more than One of Them Days by Monday. Other top movies included the horror film Wolf Man, which made $10.6 million, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with $8.6 million, and Den of Thieves 2 with $6.6 million.
The top 10 this weekend features familiar films, with some already in their fourth week. Moana 2 earned $6 million, while Nosferatu made $4.3 million. Other films like A Complete Unknown, Wicked, and Babygirl also made their mark with earnings of $3.8 million, $3.5 million, and $2 million, respectively.

Moana 2 continues to lead globally with $567 million internationally and $1.01 billion worldwide. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows with $15.2 million internationally and $23.8 million globally.
One of Them Days earned $11.6 million, holding strong despite only being released in one territory. It was outranked by Wolf Man, Moana 2, and Nosferatu on the global charts.
Notable releases outside the top 10 include Paddington in Peru, which earned $6.2 million internationally, and A Complete Unknown, with $60.5 million globally. Meanwhile, Anora, a film by Sean Baker, surpassed expectations with $11.1 million in total earnings.
Next weekend, Mufasa and Sonic 3 are expected to remain at the top, but smaller films like One of Them Days will face strong competition from titles like Presence, Inheritance, and Flight Risk.
