One Punch Man Season 3 has been heavily criticised by fans for its animation quality, leading One Piece animator Vincent Chansard to speak up in defence of the production team.
The anime, made by J.C. Staff, released recently but has split viewers, with many comparing it negatively to the highly praised first season.
In an interview on the KOL: Requiem YouTube channel, Chansard — who has worked on One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Castlevania — said the situation is “a bit more complex” than most fans think.
I think a lot of people blame J.C. Staff, but it’s a bit more complex. Sometimes, it’s not about the animation studio – sometimes it’s about the production committees that are on top of everything.

Chansard also spoke about the tough working conditions in Japan’s anime industry, saying that J.C. Staff is made up of artists “trying to survive” under serious pressure.
People on social media are harassing the staff… everyone has work conditions that push them to make choices.
He called out the online harassment aimed at the staff, saying
His views match those of One Punch Man Season 3 director Shinpei Nagai, who recently asked fans to “stop with the harassment and the persistent questions that I can’t answer due to NDAs.”
The backlash grew worse after Episode 2, when fans mocked scenes that used still frames — especially one of Garou sliding down a hill. The scene became a meme, and some called the show “One Frame Man.”

Still, some viewers have defended the season, saying it still offers exciting action scenes. Chansard pointed out that comparing it to Season 1, made by Madhouse, is unfair because the teams, budgets, and production limits are different.
One Punch Man Season 3 is still airing, with Episode 3 scheduled to come out on October 26.
