The movie Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers, was a big surprise hit in 2024. It came out during the busy Christmas season when many other movies were released. Despite the competition, it performed really well.
It had the best opening ever for Focus Features and quickly became the most successful movie in Eggers’ career. After just one week, it hit a major box office milestone and is now one of the top horror movies of the year.
The movie Nosferatu has made over $50 million in the U.S., which is something only five horror movies did in 2024. It’s about to beat Terrifier 3’s total of $53 million, making it one of the top five horror movies of the year.
The other top horror films are Smile 2 ($68 million), Longlegs ($74 million), Alien: Romulus ($105 million), and A Quiet Place: Day One ($138 million). But overall, 2024 wasn’t a great year for horror movies, even though they usually make good money because they don’t cost much to make.

The movie Nosferatu got great reviews and has an 85% approval rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. A reviewer from Collider, Jeff Ewing, called it “a moody, stunning visual masterpiece,” and said it’s “it’s the best horror film of the year and easily one of 2024’s best overall.”
