Comedy star Nikki Glaser is sharing her thoughts on Conan O’Brien’s Oscars debut, giving the late-night legend top marks for his hosting skills.
Speaking on Live with Kelly & Mark after Sunday’s ceremony, Glaser didn’t hold back her praise.
Last night, Conan… A+. I mean, we know he’s funny. We know he’s going to kill. We knew we were in good hands, but there was a silliness to it, with the Sand Worm playing the harp. There was wild stuff happening.
she declared
Glaser, who previously hosted the Golden Globes, also weighed in on O’Brien’s comedic timing, saying his monologue “was good” and that he “took some chances.” She pointed out the unexpected Kendrick Lamar joke mid-show, calling it a bold move.
When asked about her personal highlight of the night, Glaser admitted, “selfishly,” it was the Adam Sandler-Timothée Chalamet running gag because it all started with her.
I really loved when he was talking to Adam Sandler and then Adam Sandler ran up to Timothée Chalamet and goes, ‘Chalomeeeeet,. That was the joke I made at the Golden Globes. So I felt like a callback to my joke and when I was watching it, I was like [makes surprised expression]. It was so awesome.
she said
Another standout for Glaser? The emotional opening number from Wicked. “My hair on my arms was raising,” she said of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s performance of Defying Gravity. “It was so beautiful.”
Glaser’s Golden Globes joke about Chalamet’s name “Your name sounds like something Adam Sandler would say” had originally prompted Sandler to chime in with an exaggerated “Timothée ah Chalameeeet.” Seeing the bit resurface on Hollywood’s biggest night made it even more special.
As for O’Brien? With a near-flawless hosting performance under his belt, the comedian’s Oscars debut has clearly won over audiences and his fellow comics alike.
