We now have a better understanding of the show’s popularity on Apple TV+. Since Season 2 premiered in February, the dystopian thriller has been streamed for 6.4 billion minutes, according to Nielsen’s data.
This total includes views from both Season 1 and Season 2, covering the period from the week of January 13 to the week of March 17. The Season 2 finale set a new record for the show, with 876 million minutes watched during the week of March 17–23.
That’s a 29% increase from the previous high for this season. “Severance” also beat Netflix’s “Temptation Island” in terms of the percentage of viewers aged 18–49—a key age group for TV ratings. About 71% of “Severance” viewers were in that age group.

The Season 2 finale of “Severance” was also the first time the show made it onto Nielsen’s Overall Top 10 list, instead of just the Originals Top 10. That’s a big achievement for any show, but it’s especially impressive for an Apple TV+ original since Netflix usually dominates the Overall Top 10.

Speaking of Netflix, one of its shows took the top spot on Nielsen’s overall list. “Adolescence” hit No. 1 during its first full week on the platform, with 1.44 billion minutes watched. That’s a 59% jump in viewership compared to its premiere week.
The show’s strong performance was largely due to adults aged 35–64, who comprised 56% of the viewers, and Hispanic viewers, who made up 26%. It’s even more impressive because the miniseries consists of only four hour-long episodes. “Adolescence” is now ranked No. 3 on Netflix’s list of most-watched English-language shows ever, with 124.2 million views. This ranking is based on both total hours watched and total views, which gives a clearer picture when comparing Netflix titles.
Netflix also saw wins from Shondaland. “The Residence” came in second on the overall list with 1.355 billion minutes watched, and “Grey’s Anatomy” landed in fifth place with 977 million minutes. It’s worth noting that “Grey’s Anatomy” is also available on Hulu. Hulu had another success with “Family Guy,” which took the eighth spot. That animated series joined “Bluey” as a regular on the Nielsen chart. “Bluey” earned 975 million minutes watched on Disney+ and took sixth place that week.
Other top shows included Prime Video’s “Reacher,” with 1.097 billion minutes, and HBO’s “The White Lotus,” with 973 million minutes watched on Max.
Besides “Adolescence” and “Severance,” the week’s biggest hits were movies. “Moana 2” ranked third with 1.129 billion minutes watched on Disney+, and “Wicked” came in ninth with 905 million minutes on Peacock.
