Fans of Bong Joon Ho will have to wait a bit longer for his next film after Parasite. Warner Bros. has pushed back Mickey 17, the sci-fi movie starring Robert Pattinson, to April 18, 2025. This new date is three months later than the original release planned for January 31, 2025.
The new April 18 release date for Mickey 17 gives it the chance to play in IMAX and attract audiences during Easter. Originally, director Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, ‘Michael‘ was scheduled for that date, taking up IMAX and other large-format screens. But Lionsgate recently moved Michael to October 3, allowing Warner Bros. to switch Mickey 17 into the April slot.
Warner Bros. and New Line’s movie Companion, originally set for January 10, will now take Mickey 17’s old date of January 31.
Mickey 17 has been delayed before—it was first scheduled for March 29, 2024. Sources told Variety that the initial move to 2025 gave the team more time to complete the project, which faced delays from last year’s strikes and other production changes.
Studio sources say the shift to the April release shows their confidence in director Bong. This decision followed the positive response to the movie’s first trailer, released in September. Watch the trailer below:
The sci-fi thriller Mickey 17 is based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7. It stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” worker sent on risky missions to help colonize a frozen planet. When Mickey dies, a new copy of him is created with most of his memories intact. The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
