When Good Omens first came out on Amazon Prime, fans praised it as the perfect version of the popular book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. But just before the third season, serious accusations were made against Gaiman.
These accusations surprised Gaiman’s fans. Good Omens got caught up in the controversy. A third season had been planned – but it was soon revealed that instead of a full season, the story would be shortened to a feature-length special.
In a recent interview with The Times (via Radio Times), Michael Sheen shared that he and co-star David Tennant felt the same way about the difficult situation the production faced.
I really don’t know what’s going to happen with it. We [Sheen and Tennant] were both relieved we finished the story, but that’s within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people get to see it, but that, to a large extent, is out of our hands.

The accusations against Gaiman were very hard for Good Omens fans to hear. Even though Gaiman is no longer part of the project, it’s still based on his original work. He has been accused of rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking, all of which he denies.

Gaiman denied the accusations in a journal post in January 2025.
As I read through this latest collection of accounts, there are moments I half-recognize and moments I don’t, descriptions of things that happened sitting beside things that emphatically did not happen. I’m far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever. I’ve spent some months now taking a long, hard look at who I have been and how I have made people feel. Like most of us, I’m learning, and I’m trying to do the work needed, and I know that that’s not an overnight process. I hope that with the help of good people, I’ll continue to grow. I understand that not everyone will believe me or even care what I say but I’ll be doing the work anyway, for myself, my family and the people I love. I will be doing my very best to deserve their trust, as well as the trust of my readers.

But many Good Omens fans have now completely turned away from him.
Someone you’ve worked with, a friend, has been canceled for some quite serious allegations. How has that affected you? We’re doing Good Omens again. We’re going back to do the final. We’re doing a final. There’s been a slight rejig with the personnel. But we still get to tell that story which I think it would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger. So I’m glad that’s been worked out.” There’s still no release date, however.
