The show Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the funniest TV shows of the 2010s. It aired from 2013 to 2021 and had eight amazing seasons. Fans really want the show to come back so they can see Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago again. However, Melissa Fumero, who played Amy, shared a sad but understandable reason why the show probably won’t return for another season.
Melissa Fumero, while promoting the second season of True Story shared why the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine won’t be coming back for a reboot or revival.
It turns out that it’s not just the fans who want a reunion—Fumero revealed that the cast also really wants to work on something new together.
However, Fumero explained that a revival would feel incomplete because it would be missing the heart and soul of the series.
Andre Braugher played the stern but hilarious Captain Raymond Holt throughout all eight seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Holt’s serious and unshakable personality was the perfect contrast to Jake Peralta‘s (Andy Samberg) fun and chaotic nature, and their differences were a big part of the show’s clever humor.
Braugher sadly passed away in December 2023 at the age of 61. After his passing, the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine shared their tributes online.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended in 2021 with its eighth and final season. The 12 emotional episodes tackled the aftermath of the COVID pandemic and the major shift in public opinion about the police after several national incidents. The final two episodes are some of the highest-rated in the series, proving the show ended on a high note—something many long-running shows struggle to achieve.
While shows like The Office keep getting remakes abroad and even reboots in the U.S., Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t need to come back. The show is a perfect example of great sitcom writing, combining humor, lovable characters, and real-world social issues. Over eight seasons, fans watched Jake Peralta grow up, Amy Santiago climb the NYPD ranks, and Raymond Holt learn to loosen up with his team.
Wanting a revival is understandable, as we will always want more of a great thing. But a reboot/revival has the chance of watering down or tarnishing the legacy of the original show. Not every series needs to run for 15 seasons (we’re looking at you Supernatural), nor does it need a revival (Fraiser). Some legacies are better left untouched.
