Logan Paul and his brother Jake Paul were among the well-known social media stars who made false claims about Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.
The Paul brothers shared their thoughts about the boxing match between Italian Angela Carini and Khelif at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Elon Musk’s platform X, which used to be called Twitter.
Carini left the match after getting hit in the face several times by Khelif. One social media post falsely claimed that Khelif was transgender and born male.
Logan Paul said in a now-deleted post, “This is pure evil happening right in front of us. A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a world stage, ruining her dream while she fought for her late father. This has to stop.”
Khelif has always identified as a woman. The confusion started when the International Boxing Association disqualified her last year, saying she had XY chromosomes. However, the IOC disagreed and let Khelif compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, just like she did in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Logan Paul admitted he was wrong after being called out on social media.
“OOPSIES,” Logan Paul wrote. “I might have spread misinformation like everyone else on this app.”
He later said, “I still believe that biological men shouldn’t compete against biological women in any sport. If you disagree, you’re messed up.”
Logan Paul’s brother, Jake, hasn’t returned his earlier messages where he called the match between Khelif and Carini “sickening” and “a travesty.”
Jake Paul also invited Carini to fight at one of their Most Valuable Promotions events “when she is ready.”
JK Rowling and Elon Musk also expressed their anger on social media based on false information. At the time of this post, neither the Harry Potter author nor the X owner has issued a correction.
