Kim Kardashian still feels scared after what happened to her in 2016, and she recently said she “can’t sleep” unless her security team is nearby. “I thought I was going to die,” she said, remembering the awful moment when masked men tied her up, put tape over her mouth, and pointed a gun at her in a fancy hotel in Paris.

On the night of October 2, 2016, during Fashion Week, five men dressed like police officers broke into her room. They stole about $10 million worth of jewelry (£7.5m), including a $4 million diamond ring that Kim got from her then-husband, Kanye West. They escaped on bicycles. But what they left behind was much worse: fear, pain, and a deep emotional scar on one of the most famous women in the world.
It was terrifying and life-changing and I don’t wish that kind of terror on anyone – to think you could be killed or raped – I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

Now, BBC Three is telling the dramatic story of what happened in The Kim Kardashian Diamond Heist, a new documentary that shares never-before-heard stories from friends, police, security experts, and reporters.

The film shows how bold the crime was, how security failed, and how deeply it hurt Kim emotionally. It follows everything from the night of the robbery to when Kim later faced the men who caused her so much pain.

Nine years after the heist, Kim told the court how “everything changed” for her that night. She said she now feels scared to go outside and has up to six security guards watching her home every night.
I can’t even sleep at night if I know there’s not multiple security.
she disclosed
During the trial, Kim bravely faced the ten men accused of planning and carrying out the robbery. In the end, eight were found guilty of kidnapping and stealing from her. But most of them got light punishments because they were either old or had health problems.
Aomar Aït Khedache, said to be the leader, was given eight years in prison but will only spend three behind bars because five years were taken off. His partners, Yunis Abbas, Didier Dubreucq, and Marc-Alexandre Boyer, each got seven years, but with the same five-year cut, meaning they won’t go to jail at all.
Yunis Abbas, now 71 years old, wrote a book in 2021 about the famous crime and had already spent 20 years in jail for other burglaries. One man was punished for having a gun, and two others were let go without any punishment.
The Kim Kardashian Diamond Heist also shows the serious security problems – like not having strong protection at a hotel full of famous people and the dangers of sharing too much on social media. Some people think Kim’s flashy Instagram posts might have helped the robbers know where and when to strike.
This is my closure and my opportunity to put this to rest after everything I’ve been through, emphasising her responsibility to tell my truth and hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
