Khloé Kardashian is opening up about a life-changing moment that ultimately led to the end of her marriage with Lamar Odom.
During the latest episode of her Khloé in Wonderland podcast on Wednesday, January 29, the reality star reflected on a key turning point that made her realize their relationship was beyond saving.
In a conversation with author Mel Robbins, Kardashian was asked if she had ever been in a situation where she knew what she needed to do but struggled to take action. That’s when the Good American founder shared a profound moment from her time with the former NBA player.
I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction. And I knew that his addiction always heightened—he was in the NBA and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season because idle time is the devil’s playground.
Kardashian, 40, recalled
She went on to explain how she had desperately encouraged Odom, 45, to accept an opportunity to play for Team USA, hoping it would give him purpose and structure.
I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA,’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,’ Kardashian shared.
That response hit her hard, serving as the wake-up call she needed.
I remember when he said, ‘You can’t want it more than me’ and ‘I don’t want it’—it was so profound,
she admitted.
Kardashian explained that, despite wanting to help Odom, she had to come to terms with the reality that she couldn’t fight his battles for him.
It’s so silly, ’cause I know that. But I wanted it so badly because I wanted to help him and to get him to feel the motivation and feel good, but he just wasn’t in that place.
she said
Ultimately, that moment marked a turning point in their marriage, and after years of struggling, Kardashian made the difficult decision to file for divorce.
That was a very pivotal moment in my life because I remember that statement being like…’Yeah, you’re right. I can’t want your life more than you.
she reflected
Kardashian and Odom married in 2009 but separated in 2013, with their divorce finalized in 2016.
During a previous episode of her podcast, the reality star revealed that her split from Odom was even harder than her breakup with Tristan Thompson, the father of her two children, True, 6, and Tatum, 2.
In hindsight, I was like, I don’t wanna be with someone that does [hard drugs], even just a little. Because it could easily be a slippery slope. But you are in love and you’re like, ‘It’s fine,.
she admitted
Despite the hardships, Kardashian has continued to learn from her past relationships and remains focused on personal growth.
