Kate Walsh is officially returning to Grey’s Anatomy. Variety has learned exclusively that the fan-favorite actress will reprise her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery in an upcoming episode of the show’s ongoing 22nd season.
Walsh will appear in the episode airing Jan. 29, titled “Strip That Down.” Plot specifics are being kept under wraps for now.
This marks Walsh’s first appearance on the series since her recurring role in Seasons 18 and 19. Her most recent episode was Season 19’s “Gunpowder and Lead.” Walsh originally joined Grey’s Anatomy in its first season and remained a main cast member through Season 3, later appearing multiple times through Season 8. She also led the ABC spinoff Private Practice for six seasons, from 2007 to 2013.
Since her tenure on Grey’s Anatomy, Walsh has starred in a number of major series, including 13 Reasons Why, Emily in Paris, and The Umbrella Academy for Netflix. She will next appear in the comedy feature “What the F*ck Is My Password?” directed by Steven Pink, acting alongside Alexander Ludwig, Stephen Dorff, Kal Penn, and Adam Pally. In 2024, she starred in The Public Theatre’s world premiere of “Jordans.”
Gersh, Untitled, and Yorn Levine Barnes represents Walsh. Season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy premiered Oct. 9 and continues to anchor ABC’s programming lineup, alongside dramas like High Potential, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1: Nashville, as well as comedies such as Abbott Elementary and Shifting Gears.
