Fans rushing to book tickets for Jurassic World Rebirth after its trailer drop on Tuesday might notice something odd — it’s not showing in IMAX. The film, hitting theaters on July 2, is available in formats like RealD 3D, 4DX, and ScreenX, but not on any of the 1,738 IMAX screens worldwide.
This is a significant shift from 2015’s Jurassic World, which premiered on over 800 IMAX screens — the biggest IMAX launch. The reason? IMAX screens are in high demand and usually reserved for movies shot with IMAX cameras or those that commit early.

For 2025, IMAX had already scheduled several big titles filmed specifically for their format. It started with Sinners in April, followed by Thunderbolts (May 2), Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16), Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning (May 23), How to Train Your Dragon (June 13), and F1 The Movie (June 27). July will bring Superman (July 11) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25).

Unlike How to Train Your Dragon, which includes over 50 minutes of IMAX-exclusive footage, Jurassic World Rebirth wasn’t shot for IMAX. Plus, it was only announced in January 2024, with the release date confirmed a month later — too late to secure IMAX slots.
In 2023, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning had to give up IMAX screens to Oppenheimer, which had locked in a rare three-week IMAX run. Similarly, Barbie didn’t debut in IMAX due to these schedule constraints but got a limited one-week IMAX showing in September.
A future IMAX release for Jurassic World Rebirth is uncertain. Post-summer IMAX titles include Weapons (Aug. 8), The Conjuring: Last Rites (Sept. 5), Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (Sept. 12), Him (Sept. 19), and One Battle After Another (Sept. 26). Later in the year, Disney’s Tron: Ares (Oct. 10) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (Dec. 19) will also hit IMAX screens.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One), Jurassic World Rebirth is written by David Koepp (of Jurassic Park fame), and stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. It opens exclusively in theaters on July 2.
