32 years after Steven Spielberg made “Jurassic Park” and changed the way big movies are made, the series is getting a fresh start with “Jurassic World Rebirth” this summer. The movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, who also made “Rogue One” and “The Creator.” It’s described as a new beginning for the dinosaur-filled franchise, but it will also bring back something from the original. David Koepp, who wrote Spielberg’s classic movie, finally includes a famous scene from Michael Crichton’s original “Jurassic Park” book.
In a first-look article from Vanity Fair, producer Frank Marshall confirmed that the famous river raft scene from the book, which was left out of the original Jurassic Park movie, will finally be shown in Jurassic World Rebirth.

In Michael Crichton’s book, Alan Grant and John Hammond’s grandkids, Tim and Lex Murphy, try to quietly float across a lagoon in a rubber raft without waking up the T-Rex. But things go very wrong, and everything turns into complete chaos. Crichton’s book describes this scene as follows:
The tyrannosaur was now chest-deep in the water, but it could hold its big head high above the surface. Then Grant realized the animal wasn’t swimming, it was walking, because moments later only the very top of the head — the eyes and nostrils — protruded above the surface. By then it looked like a crocodile, and it swam like a crocodile, swinging its big tail back and forth, so the water churned behind it.
“If I may? Hell yeah.” In a recent interview with /Film, Koepp said he thinks Jurassic World Rebirth is a chance to change the style of the Jurassic movies again. Including this scene shows that the film will bring back the scary side of dinosaurs. Edwards and Marshall also supported this idea in their own comments to Vanity Fair.
Jurassic Park was the biggest movie ever when it came out, and it started a $6 billion series that has lasted for more than 30 years. The Jurassic World trilogy (which came after the original Jurassic Park movies) had some scary moments, but overall, it felt more like a PG-13 adventure.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but after three movies with the same style, it feels like time for a change. Edwards, Koepp, and the Rebirth producers all wanted a different feel, and Edwards told Vanity Fair that he’s aiming for a true horror movie vibe.
Jurassic Park’ is a horror film in the witness protection program. Most people don’t think of it like that. We all went to see it as kids. But I was scared s***less, to be honest, when I was at the cinema watching the T-Rex attack. It’s one of the most well-directed scenes in cinema history, so the bar’s really high to come on board and try and do this.
Edwards has a lot of experience with movie monsters. He directed Godzilla in 2014, which started Legendary’s MonsterVerse.

His first movie was also a low-budget sci-fi film called Monsters. If you think of dinosaurs as monsters, he seems the right person for the job. It also looks like he wants to show that these man-made dinosaurs are more scary than amazing.
There’s something very primal that’s buried deep inside everybody “As mammals, we evolved [with] this fear of the bigger animal that’s going to come one day and maybe kill us or our family. The second we see it happening on screen, you’re like, ‘I knew it … We had it too good for too long.
Edwards added
This movie will have all-new characters, so don’t expect to see Owen Grady or Ellie Sattler. Instead, the main cast includes Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked). But what will they be doing? When the movie’s title was announced, we got a short summary of Jurassic World Rebirth. However, Vanity Fair’s report has some exciting new details.
The story follows members of a recovery team […] as they venture to an island near the equator that was once home to the first Jurassic Park’s research lab. So, apparently, we’re going to the place where it truly started. But not all research goes according to plan, which is a big factor here. These are the dinosaurs that didn’t work. There’s some mutations in there. “They’re all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different.
Marshall explained
So yes, mutant dinosaurs will be part of the story. That could be why one of Vanity Fair’s pictures shows a T-Rex with tiger stripes or another shows several Spinosauruses surrounding a boat. Marshall also shared more details to help explain the world this movie is set in.
[Koepp] came up with this idea that dinosaurs were passé now. People were tired of them. They were an inconvenience. People weren’t going to museums to see them or to petting zoos. They were just in the way. And the climate was not conducive to their survival, so they were starting to pass away and get sick. But there was one area around the equator that had the perfect climate and temperature and environment for them.
Right now, the trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth hasn’t been released yet. But it will be out very soon, and it features what is called a “twisted dinosaur,” though its name hasn’t been revealed. Edwards described the creature by saying, “Some Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger went in there, a little T-Rex went in there.”
Jurassic World Rebirth will be in theaters on July 2, 2025.
