Universal’s movie has already cast Emily Blunt and Colman Domingo.
Josh O’Connor, known for Challengers, has joined Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie. The cast already includes Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson (from Bad Sisters and Flora and Son). Universal Pictures plans to release the film on May 15, 2026.
Steven Spielberg is directing the movie, using a script by David Koepp. Koepp has worked with Spielberg before on movies like Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The studio calls it a “new original event film,” but they haven’t shared any plot details yet. The story, created by Spielberg, is expected to include some sci-fi elements. Kristie Macosko Krieger, who has worked with Spielberg on movies like A.I. Artificial Intelligence and West Side Story, will produce the film.
Josh O’Connor is widely recognized for playing Prince Charles in Seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix’s hit show The Crown. He also starred in Luca Guadagnino’s tennis drama Challengers, where he was part of a love triangle with Zendaya and Mike Faist. Right now, he’s working on Kelly Reichardt’s movie The Mastermind with Alana Haim. He’ll also be in Rian Johnson’s upcoming Knives Out sequel, Wake Up Dead Man, set to release in 2025.
