The DC Universe might have found its Hal Jordan, also known as Green Lantern. Josh Brolin has reportedly been offered the role, but not all fans are excited about this possible casting choice.
After insider Jeff Sneider reported that Josh Brolin might be cast as Green Lantern, DCU fans on X quickly shared their opinions, with most not liking the idea. Many felt Brolin is too old to play Hal Jordan, especially next to a younger Superman, and some thought he didn’t look like the comic book character.
However, a few fans supported the idea, suggesting that if James Gunn is going for the Parallax storyline, an older actor like Brolin would be a good fit. Comic book creator Rob Liefeld, who made the Marvel character Cable (played by Brolin in Deadpool 2), also joined the conversation, praising Brolin as a talented actor who improves every project he works on and saying that if Brolin plays Hal, it will be great.

Who Do DC Fans Want to See Play Hal Jordan?

As fans criticized the idea of Josh Brolin playing Green Lantern, many suggested other actors for the role, like James Marsden, Tom Cruise, and Jake Gyllenhaal. While DC fans aren’t keen on Brolin as Hal Jordan, they are open to seeing him in other DCU roles, like Deathstroke or the voice of Kilowog, an alien Green Lantern.
If Brolin does take on the role of Hal Jordan, he’s expected to debut in the DCU series Lanterns on HBO. The show, ordered in June 2024, follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they investigate a dark mystery on Earth. The creative team includes Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic book writer Tom King, with Mundy as the showrunner.
A Green Lantern Will Appear in Superman
Before Lanterns airs, another Green Lantern will appear in the upcoming Superman reboot, written and directed by James Gunn. Nathan Fillion, who has voiced Hal Jordan in animated projects, will play Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Set photos show Gardner as part of a superhero team with Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific, funded by Maxwell Lord. Fillion is expected to return as Guy Gardner in Lanterns.
Lanterns doesn’t have a release date on HBO yet.
