Viscount Anthony Bridgerton will be back! Jonathan Bailey announced that he will return as the oldest Bridgerton sibling in the new fourth season of the popular Netflix show. Just like in Bridgerton Season 3, where the story focused on his younger brother Colin (Luke Newton) falling in love with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), Anthony will appear in a few important scenes next season.
“I have a couple of weeks set aside in my schedule for filming the new season of Bridgerton,” Bailey said in an interview with Good Morning America, where he also talked about his Emmy-nominated role in Showtime’s Fellow Travelers. “I’m excited to read the scripts.”
Unlike Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) from Season 1, who didn’t appear together again, Anthony and his wife Kate (Simone Ashley) from Season 2 were both back in Season 3. (Dynevor did return alone for a few scenes in Season 2 before leaving the show for good.)
Advertisement Bailey had mentioned several times that he planned to stay with Bridgerton for a long time. This matches his character’s role as the Viscount and leader of the Bridgerton family, with Kate by his side as the Viscountess.
When we last saw the happy couple in Season 3, they were heading to Kate’s homeland of India for a babymoon.
“Bridgerton is great because it shows all the different ways people can fall in love,” Bailey said. “As the older brother, I’ll be there to support the younger characters as the story continues.”
Even though Penelope and Colin are now a couple, Penelope, especially with her secret identity as the ton’s gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, will probably stay around.
Season 4 of Bridgerton will focus on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the second son of the Bridgerton family. Even though his older and younger brothers are happily married, Benedict doesn’t want to settle down—until he meets a mysterious Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball. In the books, her name is Sophie Beckett, and Yerin Ha will play her on the show.
“Benedict is full of wonder and joy. He’s the heart of the family,” Bailey said. “Luke Thompson is going to be amazing.”
