The Stranger Things actor, who is best known for playing Steve Harrington in the popular series, called the role a “gift” during his appearance on the Zach Sang Show on Wednesday, April 23. The 33-year-old multi-talented star talked about the sci-fi show when he was asked if it felt “weird” to play such an “iconic” role — one that people might remember him for “for the longest time.”

I mean what a gift it’s been to do it. There’s a part of me, obviously, that is like ‘No, I’m more than just that.’ But I don’t know, I’m kind of okay with that. If that’s all, I mean — what an insane ride that has been. But I guess now it puts me in this place of privilege to be able to just like chase the things I’m really interested in doing.

Keery said that besides working on his music career, which he currently performs under the name Djo, he is also searching for new roles that he finds “interesting.”

A thing like that, I mean that’s like a once in a lifetime thing, you know? What a fun and crazy ride.

Later in the episode, the actor talked about the “constant battle” of asking “who am I” that comes from playing such a major role.
I think there is something to it, and also the impostor syndrome of it all. Being so fortunate to do something and wanting to prove that you’re worthy of this opportunity that you’ve been given, and all of these things coming together.

Earlier this year, Keery said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the experience was “crazy.”
“It was a long year. But to wrap it all up and the anticipation of working on something for so long — I mean it’s been one-third of my life, really. It was emotional. We sort of got to that last day and it was like everything really hit on that last day of shooting.
