Jimmy Kimmel took aim at President Donald Trump’s latest policies during his opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday night (Feb. 4), ripping into the president’s escalating trade war with Canada and his controversial nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Kimmel opened with a sharp critique of the Senate Finance Committee’s decision to approve RFK Jr.’s nomination along party lines, alongside Trump’s pick for National Security Director, Tulsi Gabbard.
It was a stupor Tuesday in Washington today. Senators voted along party lines to advance the nominations of Trump’s pick for National Security Director, Tulsi Gabbard, a woman who appears to have been styled by Cruella DeVille, and RFK Jr., who would definitely eat all the Dalmatians she kidnapped.
Kimmel quipped
According to the Constitution, the Senate is required to ‘advise and consent’ on Presidential nominees. This time, Republicans decided to skip the advise part and go right to consent… After Kennedy got through, the Republicans who voted for him broke into a rousing chorus of ‘For He’s a Jolly Rubella.’
Taking another jab at Kennedy’s well-documented anti-vaccine stance, Kimmel joked
Kimmel Roasts Trump’s Canada Tariff War
Kimmel then turned his attention to Trump’s push for a 25% tariff on Canadian imports and his outlandish suggestion that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state.
Republicans seem to be rooting for this because they’re now just a party of snickering trolls. But let’s just imagine for a second that somehow they do make this happen and Canada does become a state. Do they think it would be a red state?
Kimmel remarked
There are about 41 million people living in Canada. That’s about the same number we have in California… California has 54 electoral votes. If Canada also had 54 electoral votes, forget MAGA, our next president will be a kind-hearted lesbian moose.
The late-night host broke down the numbers, saying
I’m trying to say I’m for it. Save us, Canada, you’re our only hope.
Bringing his satirical monologue to a close, Kimmel added
Kimmel on Trump’s Plan to Dismantle the Department of Education
Kimmel also criticized Trump’s reported efforts to dismantle the Department of Education, questioning the logic behind the move.
Eliminating the Department of Education isn’t making America great again, it’s making America Florida. Okay? I guess the idea is we’ll save money on books if the kids can’t read? I really don’t know.
