While Harry Potter enchanted audiences worldwide, Jason Isaacs, who portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the beloved franchise, has revealed that making the films wasn’t quite as thrilling behind the scenes.
During an appearance on BBC’s The One Show on February 24, the 61-year-old actor made what he called a “terrible confession” about the experience.
It’s a terrible confession to make, they weren’t that much fun to make. It’s quite boring, making big special effects films.
Isaacs admitted
The pleasures all come afterwards. I see and meet people for whom their lives were changed by it, and still people reading it and sharing it with their children. Some people say their lives were saved by it and I believe it.
Despite this, he acknowledged the lasting impact of the franchise, saying
A Magical Legacy
Isaacs starred as Draco Malfoy’s ruthless father in six of the eight Harry Potter films, alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, from 2001 to 2011.
Although the filmmaking process was tedious at times, Isaacs still finds the magic alive when visiting Harry Potter attractions.
Even though I was in the films, when I’ve taken godchildren or nephews and nieces to the tour and the thing comes up and suddenly, you’re in the Great Hall, every time, I burst out in tears. It’s incredibly moving and overwhelming. There’s some magic that happened in those stories.
he shared
From Wizardry to ‘The White Lotus’
Isaacs is currently part of the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, which is set in a fictional luxury resort in Thailand. While filming in Southeast Asia was an adventure, he admitted that the intense heat made some scenes particularly uncomfortable—especially the intimate ones.
We’re doing intimate scenes, and you stink. By the end of each day, we’re just caked in sweat and makeup. You can peel your clothes off with a trowel. It melts your fillings.
he joked in a Time interview published on January 24
His White Lotus co-star Michelle Monaghan also noted the extreme conditions, saying the heat was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
From spellbinding fantasy to steamy drama, Isaacs continues to captivate audiences no matter how challenging the production may be!
