The stars of Netflix’s airport action-thriller Carry-On attended the red carpet premiere at the Egyptian Theater on Thursday night, where they watched their new movie take off. At the event, Jason Bateman, who plays a mysterious man trying to blackmail a TSA agent into letting a dangerous package onto a Christmas Eve flight, talked about his character.
I’m not the typical tough criminal type, so I’m happy they didn’t ask me to play him that way, They let me play him as just a regular guy doing his job. He wants to blow up the plane, move on to the next job, and still make it home for the holidays.
he told The Hollywood Reporter
Taron Egerton, who plays the hardworking TSA agent trying to stop Bateman’s character, said the movie’s villain is a surprising change from what we usually see.
It’s different because he seems like a safe person, but underneath, he’s terrible,
Egerton explained
He also shared that working with Bateman was a dream come true.
I’ve watched Jason in movies and shows like Arrested Development and Ozark, so it feels unreal to be working with him.
The evening brought the cast of the film together, including Danielle Deadwyler, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls, Theo Rossi, and Sofia Carson.
Carson, who wore a black Dolce & Gabbana couture gown, shared that she was excited to play Nora — the girlfriend of Egerton’s character, who also works at the airport. She liked how the role showed a strong female character.
I was so happy to get a role in an action movie where my character wasn’t a damsel in distress, It felt great to bring that to life, especially alongside Jason Bateman, Taron Egerton, and Danielle Deadwyler, and to have Mr. Steven Spielberg as a producer — it was a dream come true.
she said

Filming Carry-On came with its own challenges, especially when the team had to turn an old airport in New Orleans into LAX. Producer Dylan Clark talked about how the team made it all come together.
It was an amazing place to film, but to make it work, you need a great director and a strong crew,
Clark said, praising the work of director Jaume Collet-Serra and writer T.J. Fixman.
Since the film is being released during the holiday season, Rossi shared his hope that it would help people see TSA agents in a new light.
The movie gives you an inside look, helping you understand and feel for what they really go through and how tough their job is, I think if we did that with other jobs, we’d have a better understanding of what people do.
Rossi explained
Bateman, whose mom worked as a flight attendant, also talked about how airport security has changed over time.
Security is much smoother now. Let’s just say, it’s way harder for my character to do what he’s trying to do today compared to when I was flying with my mom. The security is really good these days.
When asked about comparisons to the popular holiday action movie Die Hard, Egerton embraced the connection.
This film really gave me a Christmas feeling — that’s what I hope it does for others too. Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and so is this one. I really hope audiences enjoy it.
Carry-On will start streaming on Netflix on December 13.
