The BBC’s new Jane Austen series is making waves on iPlayer after its premiere. The dramatized documentary Jane Austen: Rise of a Genius debuted on BBC Two on Monday (26 June), with the second episode scheduled for the same 10pm slot next week.
However, if you’d rather not wait, all three episodes are already available to stream and can be found in the ‘New and Trending’ section.
Rise of a Genius blends drama and documentary, featuring narration by Bend It Like Beckham’s Juliet Stevenson. It includes clips from past Austen adaptations and commentary from familiar faces like Friday Night Dinner’s Tamsin Greig, Sense and Sensibility’s Greg Wise, filmmaker Ken Loach, and Bridget Jones writer Helen Fielding.
The dramatic scenes star Hungarian actress Emoke Zsigmond as Jane Austen, portraying key moments from her teenage years and early writing days to her literary success and untimely death at 41.

In a four-star review, iNews described the series as “unmissable” for devoted Jane Austen fans and praised it as “a necessary addition to Austen’s 250th anniversary celebrations.” To mark 250 years since Austen’s birth, the BBC has lined up a range of special programming.
BBC Four is set to air a range of Jane Austen adaptations throughout June, while Radio 4 will broadcast audio versions of Northanger Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility in December. Additionally, a new 10-part adaptation of The Other Bennet Sister has been announced.
Jane Austen: Rise of a Genius airs Monday nights at 10pm on BBC Two, with all episodes now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
