Since becoming DC Studios’ CEO, James Gunn has been active on Threads. He often responds to fan theories and rumors and shares updates about projects. Recently, Gunn used the platform to talk about the rumor that Chris Pratt might be in talks to play a popular DC hero.
James Gunn, the DCU’s main creative mind, shared an image on Threads of old-school Batman, Robin, and Superman with the caption, “Have the world’s finest Labor Day,” to celebrate the American holiday honoring workers’ achievements.
While many fans replied with “Happy Labor Day” messages, some brought up the rumor about Chris Pratt joining the DCU. Gunn responded to one of these comments, saying, “I don’t even know what rumor you’re talking about.”

Other users explained they were talking about the rumor that Chris Pratt, the star of Guardians of the Galaxy, might be cast as Hal Jordan in the DCU. Gunn replied, “He’s a close friend. We talk about that all the time,” hinting that they’ve discussed the idea. Gunn and Pratt have worked together before—Gunn wrote and directed Guardians of the Galaxy, its sequels, and Pratt starred as Peter Quill.
After Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Pratt and the other cast members supported him, and eventually, Gunn was rehired. During post-production, Gunn became the co-head of DC Studios.
Will Chris Pratt Join the DCU?
If Chris Pratt is cast as Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern from the New 52 comics, it would be the second time this hero appears in a live-action movie. The first was the 2011 Green Lantern film, where Ryan Reynolds played the hero, but the movie was heavily criticized for its writing and special effects. Many fans thought the glowing, computer-generated suit looked cheap.
However, Reynolds later found success with fans by playing Deadpool in the Deadpool movies, with the latest one, Deadpool & Wolverine, doing well at the box office. With Pratt’s casting and Gunn’s direction, Hal Jordan could also get a fresh start in DC’s detective-style TV series.
In the upcoming Superman movie, Nathan Fillion is already set to play Green Lantern, Guy Gardner. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, with a costume that brings back the classic red-and-blue look, including the red briefs. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon is Supergirl, and Nicholas Hoult from X-Men: First Class is Lex Luthor.
DC’s Green Lantern series is expected to come out in 2026.
