House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy said they felt “lonely” while filming season two. This made some fans worry that Emma might be thinking about leaving the show.
In interviews for the launch of season two of HBO’s hit show House of the Dragon, Emma D’Arcy talked openly about feeling lonely while filming. Some fans worry this might mean they could leave the series.
Emma D’Arcy, the 31-year-old actor who plays Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, said they felt lonely filming season two because they were separated from many of their cast friends. The new season has characters going their own ways, so the cast didn’t have scenes together as much.
Emma, a non-binary icon, became close with their co-stars during the first season, like Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen) and Olivia Cooke (Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower). At the show’s New York premiere on June 10, Emma told The Hollywood Reporter that filming without Smith and Cooke was “kind of lonely.”
But they added, “There are so many amazing actors on the show, and it’s always changing.”
Emma D’Arcy thinks it’ll be more exciting for viewers because there are many parts of the series they haven’t seen yet. They said, “I get to watch as a pure fan and enjoy the other storylines.”
After these comments, some fans worry that Emma might leave after the second season and not be in the third. Searches for “Is Emma D’Arcy leaving House of the Dragon?” increased a lot after the interview.
So far, there isn’t an official announcement about the cast for the third season, but showrunner Ryan Condal told TechRadar that a third season is already being planned.
Emma D’Arcy talked about their separation from their two co-stars, saying,
“It makes you appreciate what you lost. Every time we work together, it’s a great privilege and very exciting. It feels special and familiar.”
Emma added, “Making the first series was about falling in love with the cast—like Matt and Liv—so any time we get to enjoy that again is a treat. But shows have to move on to stay exciting, and this season, Rhaenyra has different challenges.”

Season two of the popular fantasy show, based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, will show Rhaenyra and her uncle Daemon in a Targaryen civil war against her half-brother Aegon II, played by Tom Glynn-Carney.
This separation happened because some characters go to war in the new season, causing the actors to be apart while filming.
Matt Smith also felt sad about being separated from Emma D’Arcy. He said,
“It was a shame. I missed them a lot because I love being around them. They’re not only a great actor but also a wonderful person to spend time with every day. But it was what the story needed.”
Olivia Cooke felt the same way and told Vogue, “We barely saw each other.”
Emma responded, “I… I missed you.” Cooke replied, “I missed you too!”
So, is Emma D’Arcy leaving House of the Dragon? We don’t know yet, but we hope not. Stay tuned for more updates about the season three cast as soon as we get them.
House of the Dragon season two premieres on Max on June 16 and on Sky and Now on June 17.
